Elizabeth Spragins

I am a teacher and researcher who relates challenging early modern Iberian texts to students’ 21st century experiences. In both my research and teaching, I think critically about identity, belonging, and authority in the sixteenth and seventeenth century Western Mediterranean, with particular attention to these issues in religious, linguistic, and emergent racial contexts. I am especially interested in how our conditional answers to these questions may also inform our understanding of our twenty-first century discursive, political, and textual world.
